The Vermont Journalism Coalition was founded in June 2025 to represent the shared interests of professional news organizations in Vermont and to advocate for the principles of journalism. It’s an independent nonprofit registered with the state of Vermont.
The coalition supports its members through education, public policy development, business and legal support, and more. It stands up for the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and Article 13 of the Vermont Constitution — both of which protect the freedom of the press.
The coalition is governed by a nine-member board of directors elected by its membership and is run on a day-to-day basis by an executive director. The board includes:
Dom Amato, WCAX
Bridget Higdon, O’Rourke Media Group
Lisa Scagliotti, Waterbury Roundabout
Paul Fixx, Hardwick Gazette
John Flowers, Addison County Independent
Lisa Loomis, Valley Reporter
Tim Calabro, White River Valley Herald
Mark Davis, Vermont Public
Cassandra Hemenway, The Bridge
Support for the coalition comes from the University of Vermont’s Center for Community News and the Vermont Community Foundation’s Press Forward Vermont chapter.
